A Tula Commemoration Concert To Remember!

A Tula Commemoration Concert To Remember!

This upcoming August 13th Curaçao’s very own pianist, composer, and arranger extraordinaire Randal Corsen will carry the Tula commemoration concert in the Stadsshouwburg in Amsterdam. This is a great honor as this theater is a designated protected monument of cultural historical value to the Dutch state, what is known in Dutch as a ‘rijksmonument’ (kingdom monument).

The concert will be titled Tula – Konmemorá, Reflektá i Selebrá (Tula – Commemorate, Reflect and Celebrate). He joins a prestigious list of famous artists who have performed at this event. A list which includes names like Izaline Calister, Tania Kross, Shirma Rouse and Giovanca.

It will be a musical homage to the legendary Curaçaoan slave rebellion leader Tula, who in 1795 stood at the helm of the largest slave revolt in the history of the Dutch Caribbean.

Randal Corsen will be playing alongside vocalists Kris Berry, Dutch-Curaçaoan Soul & Jazz singer, and Dibo Doran, the Curaçaoan singing sensation known artistically as Dibo D, and the night will feature Corsen’s all-star ensemble. Their performance placed a diverse array of musical styles on display, ranging from Tambú and Seú to Jazz and Classical music.

This commemoration concert was organized by the Nationaal Instituut Nederlands Slavernijverleden en Erfenis, NiNsee for short (National Institute for the History and Legacy of Slavery in the Netherlands) in cooperation with the Stadsschouwburg.

Gerson Eleonora (1987) has a passion for writing, whether it be short stories, poems or the biographies, reviews and music articles displayed here on the site. He is an aficionado of everything Caribbean, it’s almost as if salt water runs through his veins.
